DAPPLETAIL
rain. water. splash. mud. dirt. messy.
these were just a few of the thoughts racing through the pretty she-cat's mind as she ran around in the dirt. she paused for a moment before turning on her back and rolling around in the mud. surely this was not ladylike at all, but she didn't care. sure, the clean up would be a bore, but what does that matter, when you're having fun? the only thing that would make this better would be if she was doing this with leopardspot, but she could do without him.
ah, leopardspot. she's known him ever since she was an apprentice, and even back then she adored him. he was just an all-around great guy to be with. it was even better knowing that he liked her, too. over the seasons they became great friends, but to dappletail, they were much more than that. call it love, affection, crush, what you will, she only knew that she wanted to be with him. now until the end of time. dappletail sighed and closed her eyes. she could almost imagine his soft fur mixed in with his voice.
after a while, dappletail started to hurt. she picked herself up and began to clean her fur off. knowing that it would take forever unless she found some water, she set off to find a puddle or something. "Gah. Is there not one drop of water in this forsaken land?" spat the she-cat as she came up unsuccessful. with annoyance she began licking the mud off her fur. it was a little easier now since it was dry, but still. not something she'd want to waste her time doing.
but then, out of nowhere, came her knight in shining armor. or, shining fur, i guess. dappletail heard the noise and spun around, annoyed, and wondering who would disturb her peace. her eyes burning, she bared her teeth. "Please, listen, I only have so much time for myself, and--" she paused when she realized who it was. her ears grew hot and she laughed nervously. "Oh! I, uh, sorry, I didn't mean... I mean... hi!" she stuttered like an idiot.

Leopardspot. Leopardspot hated mud. The way it oozed between his toes, the squishy sucking sound it made when he walked through it. And the annoying way it clung to his underbelly and soaked through his fur. This would be why the tom was stalking carefully over the gross stuff, taking his time. It wasn't like he had anyone in particularly important to see, much less anywhere to be. Yet, that was a lie in all its truth. There was always, would always be someone important to see. Dappletail.
The she-cat was... truly different. He got along with those of that gender, quite well. But he had never felt anything for them. He loved all of them, as family. Dappletail was his truest friend, and he loved her with more than friendship to back it. He had confessed his love for her, with what in return? Nothing. He knew she liked him, but she didn't exactly express just how much. And she the tom was typically very confused around her, but he loved being near her. Where was she today? He hadn't seen her but for a few seconds this sun high.
Clearing his head of her pretty face, Leopardspot flicked a pale ear and parted his jaws. Might as well do something while he was out. Drinking in the surrounded scents, he got a bad mix of stale prey and soggy ground. Flashing his green eyes, he switched his direction and headed left. The warrior sighed and padded on, the spring breeze carrying the warm sun rays through his short fur, warming his back nicely. That's when he spotted her, in all her beauty. Apparently starling her, Dappletail turned on him in a hurry.
About to tell him off, she realized who she was looking at and caught her mistake with a stutter. He couldn't help but chuckle at her silliness. "Hush, you'll make a fool of yourself in front of the prey!" he teased, stepping forward to gently lick her forehead. "Have fun?" he asked, glancing at her muddied pelt.

DAPPLETAIL
listening to her best friend the she-cat stayed silent for a few moments. after he was done speaking she laughed and shook her head when he licked her. "Totally! Even though the cleanup is kinda, well, you know." smiling at the tabby, she knew he was the kind of cat who wouldn't want to do this, but he would for her. she wouldn't make him do that though, knowing how much he despised mud. "So, what are you doing? I mean, I know you don't like mud and all, so," tilting her head she looked at the tomcat with a questioning look.
was she out here looking for her? the thought of that made dappletail's heart swell with love and affection. it was within the realm of possibility, so she didn't rule it out. thinking about this had made her forget that she was covered in muck and mud. her eyes got wide as she quickly began to clean her pelt again. after a few seconds her neat freak attitude came through as she frantically tried to get the mud off. she didn't even care that leopardspot was watching, she wanted it off. now.
after a long while it finally got off, and her fur was clean. just a few more quick swipes and it was done. looking at herself, she was pleased. she looked at leopardspot and smiled. within a second she went from sitting alone to pouncing onto her friend. she laughed as their limps twisted together. she leaned up and licked her friend's nose. "Hi!" she giggled, rolling onto her back. waiting for his reply, she turned over again and set her head on his paw. green eyes looked up at him, sparkling.

Leopardspot. Dappletail's laughed warmed the tom, a soft glow forming in his bright eyes. He flicked a velvet ear, listening to the she-cat ramble. It was quite cute. Ah, how he despised his feelings for her, simply because she was all he could think about these days. He was just dying to know the answer to the one question he had for her.. did she love him like he loved her? They were alike, but very different. Then she questioned his appearance there, giving him that odd look of hers "Well.." he purred for a moment.
He paused, glancing over the cat in front of him she she suddenly turned to cleanse herself again. Chuckling softly once again, he let a couple of long moments of silence pass between them. Looking away into the sun, he blinked a couple of times. it was quiet out here, warm. The mud would dry and become dirt soon, and he would go out and hunt tonight. He would bring Dappletail with him, as he usually did. Leopardspot wondered at that moment of the Clan thought anything of them. Best friends, always together, sharing tongues or hunting. He had received his warrior name only two moons before she had, but he had still spent time with her.
His thoughts were interrupted as the female warrior slammed into him, and they went rolling to the right. He hissed and batted at her carefully, tails and hinds legs tangling together. He landed on top of her, she she leaned forward to touch his nose with her pink tongue. He smiled. "Well, hello! Do I know you?" He purred in a loudly obnoxious tone. Leopardspot settled next to her, gazing at her tortoiseshell face. He was so lucky. "I was actually trying to hunt, but found that my mind was wandering," he meowed to answer her earlier question.

DAPPLETAIL
"I do think that you know me, but do I know you?" she giggled. oh, the joys that they shared. she wriggled around a little more until she was comfortable. "Oh? And why is that? Did you start thinking about me?" she teased, voice light. the she-cat wanted to tell him very much so how she felt about him, but she was afraid of what he would say. sure, she knew that he liked her too, but you know dappletail. that was the start of it, the inkling of doubt that would consume her.
'Why does he even like me? I'm not special at all. He could get so much better! A pretty she-cat with great fighting abilities, or a better hunter than me. Someone with a nicer voice, or someone who is... normal. I mean look at me, I'm crazy. I don't know why...' that was just a taste of what was going through her mind right now. green eyes, now dull, turned to look at leopardspot. it was a questioning look at the least.
"Well then do you want to hunt?" 'CelestialClan help me..' "I mean, it's the least I could do, since i seem to have changed your plans a little." she meowed, getting up. some dust came up and flew around the two until it landed on them. the majority of it landed on her friend, and the female started laughing. hard. she didn't really know why it was funny, she just liked to laugh. once she was done she shook her head at him. "C'mon, you gotta keep your coat clean, okay?" she smiled at him and started to lick the dust off his fur.
"Well, you lead the way, and i'll follow you. okay?"

Leopardspot. Leopardspot smiled as Dappletail played his game, and as she moved slightly to get comfortable beside him. Her teasing began again, and he flicked a velvety ear toward her. "Of course love, because I simply can not go a full hunting trip without thinking of you!" He purred in mock tease, thinking then that the she-cat actually was the reason he couldn't concentrate on hunting earlier. That's why he had decided to put it off until later, and begun wandering around the territory aimlessly. Dappletail grew quiet, and he glanced at her. She seemed to be thinking about something, but the tom didn't ask her about it. If she wanted him to know what it was, he was sure that she would tell him. Being the best friends that they were- they kept very little from each other. Secrets were like breaking the warrior code, uncalled for for punishable.
He was still gazing at her when she glanced up at him, her bright green eyes glimmering with wonder. Then she asked about going hunting, and he twitched his pale tail, dismissing his worry about what was going on in her head. She stood, created a little dust cloud, and Leopardspot closed his eyes as it settled around him. Dappletail started in on cleaning his pelt for him, and he purred in slight amusement. The tom pushed himself to his paws, shaking himself free of the remaining dust particles. He glanced at her for a few moments before turning, jaws parting slightly as he drank in the surrounding scents. "There may be a few squirrels over there," he flicked his tail to their left.
